Successful Partnership With Global Footwear Retailer Builds Long-Term Trust
A global retailer of footwear, sportswear and apparel sought assistance with a multi-national, multi-phase rollout of fixtures for a large number of its stores across the U.S., Canada and U.S. territories. Specifically, the company required warehousing, pick/pack/assembly, consolidation and final mile delivery for its store fixtures, with deliveries being coordinated across five different suppliers within strict timelines in order to avoid delays and sales disruptions. After reviewing NXTPoint Logistics’ customized plan for the rollout, the company moved forward with NXTPoint for the first phase of the rollout.
Phase 1 was a large-scale project taking place over a 30-day period that involved deliveries to 260 stores across 38 states and required the management of 103 product SKUs from 87 unique warehouses. In order to prevent disruptions to store operations, deliveries needed to be made to the final locations after hours, when products would be unloaded and assembled prior to the following business day. As a result, there was little to no room for error — time was of the essence.
Phase 1 Results
The NXTPoint Logistics team rose to the challenge and skillfully coordinated the warehousing, pick/pack/assembly, consolidation and final mile delivery of fixtures across all of the suppliers involved, ensuring that all fixtures arrived at the stores and were assembled and rolled out on schedule and without delays. Due to the success of the first phase of the project, the retailer awarded NXTPoint with oversight of the second phase of the rollout as well.
Phase 2
The second phase of the project was much more extensive and was a direct result of the success achieved in Phase 1. This 18-month continuation involved nearly all of the same services (minus assembly) and required the coordination of four suppliers to manage deliveries of 94 SKUs from 111 unique warehouses to 390 retail locations in 110 cities across 37 states, five Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Deliveries were required to be made in the early morning at a specified time in order to ensure unloading and placement before store hours began. Early miscommunication across contractors, construction teams and the retail teams also led NXTPoint to assume a crisis management and issue resolution role in the operation, helping to streamline communications and ensure that all services were delivered on schedule.
Additionally, NXTPoint’s tier-1 WMS, Körber One, enabled the company to gain real-time visibility into the status of the project for accurate demand forecasting, and NXTPoint was able to get Power BI visibility for the customer as well to provide immediate, up-to-date insights into inventory availability to optimize operations and ensure additional inventory was ordered and available as needed.
Phase 2 Results
Due to NXTPoint’s expertise and customized approach to managing both the intricacies of the project and communications across all stakeholders involved, we successfully met 100 percent of the customer’s goals and ensured on-time arrival of 100% of their fixture deliveries. The customer and NXTPoint worked together in a true partnership throughout the process, with the customer respecting our guidance and suggestions along the way and resulting in additional opportunities that are currently underway.
