Freight Management and FF&E Logistics for Tommy Bahama’s Hawaii Store
Challenge
Tommy Bahama, a retail company known for its tropical casual apparel, recently completed construction on a new store at the Ala Moana Mall in Honolulu, Hawaii near Waikiki Beach. To finish the location’s interior design, the retailer needed support with integrating custom furnishings within a compressed and strict timeline. This task required 3PL logistics oversight to handle every touchpoint along the supply chain journey, including an effective strategy to maneuver around site restrictions at the shopping center.
In addition, the project also involved partnering with Endetail, a retail design agency, to help facilitate FF&E installation of flooring, furniture, and accessories.
Solution
As a reliable 3PL logistics company with substantial resources and global reach, NXTPoint Logistics provided Tommy Bahama a tailored supply chain solution. Our expert team offered the retailer a consolidated approach to fulfill their logistics needs, managing incoming shipping, consolidation, ocean freight management, final mile delivery, furniture breakdown, and installation. As freight arrived from international suppliers, we coordinated final mile logistics with Endetail to deliver and install the assets to the new store.
In relocating the assets from the loading dock to the store, our delivery team was met with freight elevator issues. First, one of the freight elevators was missing pallet jacks, which made it difficult to move large, heavy assets. We had to break down the pallets into smaller parcels and transfer them via mobile carts or a dolly. Similarly, some of the assets were too large to fit inside the freight elevator, which required them to be broken down for transport. Additionally, having a faulty freight elevator caused us to pivot to a functional one located across the mall.
Following minor delivery disruption, we managed to successfully rebuild furniture and install assets with direction from Endetail.
Results
NXTPoint Logistics successfully assisted Tommy Bahama in integrating new furnishings for their Hawaii store. Our team ensured a seamless final mile delivery and installation, enhancing the store’s ambiance and customer experience.
